People always like being around people that understand them and what they are going through. Therefore if you are a coach or mentor, it is wise to take time and understand what the person you want to coach is going through. This will help you to connect with the person and be in a better position to help him/her. There are so many things that a coach should learn especially where people are involved. These will help him/her become a successful coach. Below are several things you should know about Coaching for Millennials.

One of the critical things to know is that people feel safe and relaxed around people that understand them better. Therefore, as a mentor, you should be authentic at all time. Also, you should learn to be empathetic. This will help you to relate better with the people you are coaching. Always ensure that you are honest and true to yourself.

Additionally, do not think that you know better than the people you are coaching. Some of these people may be knowledgeable than you. Gone are the days when young people would obey their elders. This is a different generation where these people can find better means to acquire the information they need. Therefore, be upfront with these people from the first day you meet them. This will help you reach them better and easier.

The third thing you should know about coaching millennials is that you ought to know when to use praise. For the young players coming out of high school, people tend to tell them that they are so good at what they do. This should not be the case. It is better to let these young people earn their way.

You should also understand that this is a generation that is addicted to getting anything they want at any time. This may not work out at all times. Therefore, as a coach, you should emphasize patience. Let the young people know that it is not always possible to get what they want right away. Therefore, they should learn to be more patient as it pays.

This is a generation that is more comfortable with technology that it is with people. However, to develop strong interpersonal communication skills, these people have to go beyond social media. Encourage and help these people to build more people skills. More so, they need to learn better communication skills so that they relate to people better.

Additionally, as a coach, you should help this young generation to diversify their goals. These people tend to be highly focused on what they want. This is okay, but you should help them have more than one plan or skills. Train them to have more than one goal in life so that they can have more open doors.

Mentors should ensure that they create a stable relationship with his/her mentees. When you connect with these people at a personal level, training them will be easy. Also, ensure that you treat them like other people. This is because they also have family goals as well as leading a successful life.
