What Hernia Repair Surgery Involves

By George Thompson

Medicine is vast, but it is very interesting. This is because it is one of the most fulfilling careers. The doctors are dedicated to treating many illnesses that affect people. For instance, if part of one of your organs is protruding, mostly in your abdomen, the doctors will perform a hernia repair surgery on you. This will help you go back to our normal state. Thus, if you have been struggling with this condition, make sure you have seen a doctor as soon as possible. Even if you have a problem with finances, make sure you have seen a doctor. This condition can be treated in three ways.

The first surgical procedure is known as open repair. This is a procedure that involves making incisions in the groin. Then, the doctor identifies the sac that contains the swelling. After that, the surgeon pushes back the sac to its position in the intestines. He then stitches the abdomen making it strong to hold the sac. Patients recover very quickly after the procedure.

The second procedure is called laparoscopic or minimally invasive. This is a procedure that uses a laparoscope which is thin telescope-like equipment. The instrument is inserted into the intestines by making a small incision at the belly button. The patient is subjected under general anesthesia during the procedure.

Hence, before the procedure is carried out, his/her general health is asses. The medical records are requested for, and a physical examination is done. Also, an electrocardiogram procedure is carried out. Then, if the patient is found fir to be operated, he/she is put under. The procedure is pain-free, and patients are stitched. They recover after a few days.

The robotic procedure is the third one. This one involves a laparoscope as well. Also, the manner in which the procedure is carried out is similar to the laparoscopic procedure. However, the main difference comes in when the doctors are working. In this procedure, a surgeon sits at the console in the OR. He then performs the surgery using a robot that handles the surgical tools.

The procedure has been found to be more effective than the other two. This is because the robot provides 3-D images of the abdomen of the patient. To add on that, the procedure allows doctors to easily use stitches to stitch the meshes and tissues after the procedure. Also, patients tend to have tiny scars than when the other methods are used.

Usually, a patient that has gone through any of the procedures will recover or heal depending on the intensity. This is because there are several types of this condition. Some of the protruding is large while others are small. Thus, the procedures will differ, so will the recovery and healing.

In case you have been suffering from this condition, it is wise to look for a qualified surgeon to operate on you. If you find a good medical center, you will be able to find a good surgeon. Hence, always ensure that you find a qualified doctor to treat you.
