Creating A Christmas Display Village Layout

By Larry Wright

Christmas villages are the best displays to use during the festive season. Making such an exhibition can be tedious to someone doing it for the first time. Therefore, one should get a reliable source of information regarding the steps to follow to make the exhibition well. The following are tips for creating a Christmas display village layout to consider.

Select an ideal place to set up the display. Look for a place that has enough space to accommodate the display and makes the entire exhibition visible enough. The doorway to your sitting room can serve such a purpose accordingly, but most houses do not have enough spaces at the entrance. You can also decide to place it on top of the fireplace mantle since it is visible from all direction. Confirm whether there is a socket that you can use to connect your light displays.

Look for a suitable base. One can rely on a bookshelf, a hutch or a cabinet to place the exhibition. Any type of base is ideal as long as it offers enough support to the exhibition and is strong enough. Even so, you need separate plywood to shift the respective exhibition to a different place on an occasional basis. Use a white tablecloth to conceal the support of the base.

Create the landscape. One of the easiest methods to create a view is by using a white felt drape. Using a curtain is ideal since you can create holes that can hold different figurines and pass through the electrical cords. Raise some part of the base with a small wood to create an impression of a train track. Make the landscape more appealing by placing down some hills and valleys using white bowls, plates and models.

Lay down the tracks. This is the first main consideration that one should make. You should consider it first since one should conceal cables required to control the train. You can decide to set it around the display or through the exhibition depending on your layout. Create impressions of tunnels with hollow wooden frames and pass the tracks through them.

Put the buildings appropriately. One can use as many building figurines as possible depending on the level of creativity and size of the exhibition. Place them along an impression of a street. Use different sizes of building to replicate different types of structures in real situations. They should depict a bank, post office, residential houses, among other familiar structures.

Consider the lighting process. Use a long stretch of LED lights to illuminate your whole exhibition other than using different bulbs. They are cheaper compared with small bulbs for different purposes. You can remove the bulbs to break or cover an exposed light and add extra snow to create an extra glow in the hills.

Add a life scene. You should add miniature trees, people and animal figurines to create a lively scene. Creatively place them to make an accurate impression. Make the set up more creative by putting the people in various positions to indicate different activities such as removing ice and singing Christmas carols.
