By Carl Morris

According to Christians, Jesus Christ is the son of God. About 2018 years ago, he was sent down to earth to die for the sins of human beings. The story of him coming on earth has been around for a very long time ever since before he was born. This is according to the bible. The article below has some of the old testament prophecies about Jesus.

According to the book of Genesis 12:3, God promised Abraham that he would use his lineage to bless all the nations of the earth. This is why up to date; Abraham is known as the father of many nations. This was fulfilled in the new testament in Acts3:25-26 when God said he would send his servant to save the offspring of his prophets from their wicked ways.

God blessed Abraham with a son at the age of 100 years. His son was named Isaac and through him, the whole world would be blessed. Sure enough, as the generations continued, there came up king David. He can be traced back to the lineage of Abraham. Jesus was referred to as the son of David, the son of Abraham in Matthew 1:1.

The prophet Isaiah foretold that Son of God would be born of a virgin girl. This is in the book of Isaiah 7:14. Later in the new testament, an angel appeared to Mary the mother of Son of God and informed her she would get pregnant. She was told it would be through the power of the holy spirit. This all happened in the book of Luke 1:35.

It was foretold that at some point, the Messiah would go to Egypt. This is written in the book of Hosea 11.1. This happened almost immediately after Jesus was born and the wise men sought him. They asked about him to the then king Herod, who felt threatened by the child and ordered the killing of all baby boys below two years of age. They went back to Israel after Herod died according to matthew2:14-15.

Christ was to be inated in Bethlehem. A prophet of the lord known as Micah prophesied that he would be given in Bethlehem of Judea. This is according to the book of Micah 5:2. It eventually came to pass as the teachers of the law supported this statement by referring to the previous prophecy. He indeed would be born in Bethlehem as indicated on Matthew 2:4-6.

The whole purpose of Jesus coming into the world was to save humankind from the sins they had been led into by the devil. He was to destroy the work of the devil as indicated on 1st John 3:18. The enmity between God and the devil came about when the devil influenced the woman to sin and getting sent away from the garden of Eden. According to Genesis 3:15.

People no longer have to offer lambs for sacrifice in order to be forgiven. God sent down the ultimate sacrifice which was Jesus Christ. He had no blemishes like all the sacrificed animals. He was sinless and being the son of God, his sacrifice was enough to echo throughout all of eternity.
